about

Released in mid 2007, 'Roky's Room' was one of the very first releases on Magic Dirt's independent label, Emergency Music. Assembling some of Melbourne's most interesting and innovative guitar players including Tom Lyncgoln (The Nation Blue, Harmony), Bonnie Mercer and original Magic Dirt guitarist Daniel Herring, 'Roky's Room' is an experimental record driven purely by guitars. It takes you on a relentless ride through a landscape of hypnotic sonic terror, down eerie rabbit holes of spore-like spiralling guitar and into chthonic caves of slowly seeping pandemonium. Noteworthy: Roky's Room was named in honour of Roky Erikson, specifically in reference to a scene from the Roky Erikson documentary, 'You're Gonna Miss Me' where Roky reveals his 'noise' room to the cameras. Check out 'Paradise parts 1 and 2 of 3' - the short film based on Roky's Room and featuring 6 of the players appearing on the record, directed by Glendyn Ivin, who also made 'Pace It', 'City Trash', 'I Love The Rain' and 'Bring Me The Head Of...' (which was incidentally shot in the same abandoned warehouse as 'Paradise parts 1 and 2 of 3'). Watch it here: vimeo.com/6280813
